| Here's a great LP of
MF with the Stan Kenton band, recorded at the Steel Pier, Atlantic City,
New Jersey in July, 1951. MF is pictured on the front cover in the band's
1951 summer plaid tuxedo. Really hip, man! Maynard comes through loud and
clear on a number of tracks, but is most sensational on the piece that was
named for him -- "Maynard Ferguson." It absolutely SCREAMS!!!!!!! I've heard
several collectors say that they feel this is his best extant recording
of that tune, and they may be right. John Himes |
