Article as published in the Summer 1992 edition of "MAYNARD" Newsletter

I first heard MF approximately nine years ago and like all of us was immediately hooked, little did I know how much of an influence he would have on my life

Since then my collection has grown to 73 albums/cd’s of Maynard and 44 Albums/cd’s with artists like Stan, Charlie, Shorty, Pete, Clifford etc, and 7 hours of Video’s including at the Newport Jazz Festival

The biggest goal in my life was to see the Boss belt it out live, and whilst a countryman of mine Peter Bowman made a trip to the US to see him (refer Winter 92/Fall 90 newsletters) and meet him I was very close to doing the same out of sheer desperation

Then the Fall 91 newsletter arrived notifying us of the "Pacific Rim Tour" including Australia

So myself and Simon Marcollo (another club member) flew to catch his first ever gig at Chatswood (free accommodation at P Bowmans)

The band flew in at 700 am after a 14 hour flight from the States and was on stage at 800pm I might add at this stage prior to this monumentous occasion I thought "This guy is 63 and maybe, just maybe past his best……"!

………WRONG

What a phenomenal power packed night from his first note in Blue Birdland to his last note in the Medley Then to top of the evening Rocky complete with the customary towel around the neck
