Rest In Peace

Maynard Ferguson

I have so many memories to talk about but I will briefly talk about my first MF concert.

After being a fan for over 10 years and living in Australia I thought there would be no way he would ever get to Australia . But in 1992 he made it to Sydney & Brisbane. These were gigs I was not going to miss no matter the cost and how much travel over those few days

My first gig was at Chatswood High School in Sydney . I thought leading up to the first gig this guy is 63 maybe past his best. Well after he nailed the first few notes of Blue Birdland I knew I could not be further from the truth, what a gig. My full review was featured in the summer 1992 Fanatics Newsletter.

After these concerts I was lucky to capture Maynard a number of other times including in London at Ronnie Scotts and again in Australia on 2 separate occasions. The second last one was when James Morrison got up on stage at The Basement, what a night.

Like most of us its hard to explain how much of an influence he had on our lives. But for me Maynard was not only the epitome of high note players but also a role model. He was a true gentleman and he exuded the passion of the music we all loved.

When Flo passed away I added a link to a very special video of MF playing Misra Denuca. It again has brought a tear to my eye. I think it is again fitting to make it available again.

To Maynard's family and his MF family I would like to again offer my sincerest condolences

I will miss you Maynard.
